Welcome to Lickinghole Creamery and Gifts. Oh no, we called it “Lickinghole” Creamery, not a word most people would associate with an ice cream shop. Why the heck did we choose “Lickinghole” Creamery as a name for the ice cream shop?
Well first let me explain what a “Lickinghole” actually is. Well a “Lickinghole” is a pre-colonial term used to describe a place where wildlife or farm animals would go to find fresh water to drink. In fact the Hanover Air Park actually has a creek, and you guessed it it’s called Lickinghole Creek. The creek runs through the Air Park property which at one time was farmland. The farm animals and other wildlife that once occupied this property would retreat to refresh themselves in the cool running waters of Lickinghole Creek. There is even a road in the Hanover Air Park named “Lickinghole Road”
Hence the name Lickinghole Creamery only felt right that it would be fitting for a name for the ice cream shop.
The Ice Cream was started by husband and wife team Ed and Stacy Whipple in July 2022. The original name of the ice cream shop was Fruits & Flowers Ice Cream Shop. The owners one day traveled to Dinwiddie Virginia and came upon a farm called Richlands Creamery and Dairy Farm that served ice cream and it was love at first lick. Now we proudly serve a locally owned product at the ice cream and it has been a hit since day one of our opening in July 2022.
